A press release from the Colorado Republican Party today lays into Rep. Joe Salazar (D-Thornton) over the above "Retweet" of (full disclosure) one of our favorite?comediennes, the lovely and gracious?Sarah Silverman:
One of Colorado?s most embarrassing and controversial legislators is calling for the rape of Gov. Scott Walker, R-Wis., over legislation that requires doctors to provide an abdominal ultrasound before conducting an abortion.
?It?s fine to disagree with Gov. Walker, but it?s not okay for Joe Salazar to call for the governor to be raped,? Owen Loftus, Colorado Republican Committee spokesman, stated. ??Rep. Salazar?s tweet is demeaning and offensive to victims everywhere.?
On July 5, Salazar retweeted a comment from comedian Sarah Silverman stating that she would ?very much like to anally probe @govwalker?? and linked to an article about the ultrasound legislation Walker signed into law?
"Where is Democrat Speaker Mark Ferrandino? ?Does he think it?s acceptable for House Democrats, under his leadership, to advocate for the rape of those with whom they disagree? ? Loftus asked. ??It is time for Speaker Ferrandino to step up and remind his Democratic colleagues that is never okay to advocate for or joke about rape.?
We're truly surprised that?the Colorado GOP thinks state Rep. Joe Salazar of Thornton is a target worthy enough to risk invoking this rather horrifying mandatory Wisconsin abortion ultrasound bill?yes, we know, his idiotic remarks about women defending themselves with guns did make headlines for a brief period during the gun legislation debate this year. But the calculus of going after him over this "Retweet" of a famously raunchy comedienne nonetheless baffles us, since Rep. Salazar is both safe and relatively obscure?while the signing of this controversial abortion restriction bill by Wisconsin?Gov. Scott Walker is national news.?
Also, Sarah Silverman has somewhere around?4.4 million Twitter followers.?So, when she hears about the Colorado Republican Party's outrage at her suggested addition to Gov. Walker's decision making process, the response (@cologop, make sure to include the #COpolitics hashtag) will be quite?memorable. Most Democrats would heartily agree: what the Colorado GOP needs right now is to open a new front in the "war on women."
That'll be soon, so get that next?press release about Wisconsin's?Republican ultrasound abortion?bill ready, smart guys! The damage this does to a party already losing with Colorado women is worth a lot of?Joe Salazars.
