San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick scrambles away from Green Bay Packers Neal in their NFL NFC Divisional playoff football game in San FranciscoReuters

On Tuesday, 49ers inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman appeared on NFL Network?s ?NFL Total Access,? and the topic of Colin Kaepernick?s Miami Dolphins cap?was broached.

NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest asked Bowman if he had indicated to Kaepernick that wearing another club?s hat wad disrespectful.

Here?s Bowman?s response, which he delivered?with a smile:

?This is a huge mistake by Kap,? Bowman said, per a short video clip on NFL.com. ?I am sure he understands that now. But in his defense, we?re young. In our era these days, we like to match our snapbacks with our outfits.?

After NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp joked about his outfit coordination, Bowman continued with his answer.

Again, he did it in a friendly tone.

?The hats now these days are very important to the outfits, man,? Bowman said. ?Kap, I understand what you did, but let?s stay away from the NFL teams. Go to the NBA, go to college or the baseball hats.?

Sapp then asked Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, another guest panelist Tuesday, for his take on sticking to hats from other sports.

?That?s the rule, for the most part, to stay out of conversations like this,? Smith said as the panel laughed.

House Dem calls for Trayvon Martin hearings | The Daily Caller

Illinois Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez is calling for Judiciary Committee hearings on the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

In a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Gutierrez wrote that the committee must hold hearings on the matter ?as soon as possible.?

?When any child is gunned down and no one goes to jail, it is incumbent on lawmakers at the highest level of government to investigate whether justice has been done, whether the underlying law is just, and whether federal legislation could help avoid another tragic death like the death of Trayvon Martin,? Gutierrez wrote. (RELATED:?Four children gunned down in Chicago during Zimmerman trial)

George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges on Saturday?in the death of Martin, after his attorneys argued self-defense.

According to Gutierrez, a member of the Judiciary Committee, Martin?s shooting death ?undermines the rule of law, erodes community trust in law enforcement, and exemplify just how dangerous the combination of rampant fear and easily available guns can be,? he wrote. ?Even as crime has gone down across the nation, fear of crime, fear of violence, and fear of fellow Americans seems to be ever increasing.?

Gutierrez went on in his letter to address the distrust he says working-class communities have toward law enforcement, pointing out that it took two months for law enforcement to make an arrest in Martin?s death.

He also criticized Goodlatte and the Judiciary Committee for passing the SAFE Act through committee, which would allow states and localities to enforce federal immigration laws as a means to improve interior immigration enforcement.

?There is a widespread feeling in many poor and working-class communities that the police are not there to serve them. The Judiciary Committee recently passed legislation you co-authored to drive an even greater wedge between local police and the communities they serve by turning all police into immigration enforcement officers and criminalizing millions of immigrants and their families,? Gutierrez wrote.

The Illinois Democrat further pointed to guns and the gun industry as another issue the committee should take on but ?scarcely has anything to say about it.?

?I note with great sadness that Mr. Martin was just one of hundreds and hundreds of children we have lost to guns,? Gutierrez wrote. ?There is no reason in a modern society to accept the sale, marketing, and widespread proliferation of guns as a means for killing other human beings and our laws should reflect that fact.?

Gutierrez?s goal, he concluded is to examine ?the panoply of questions left unanswered as George Zimmerman goes free and the Trayvon Martin family mourns.?

Advertisers React To Being In Rolling Stone's ... - Business Insider

Rolling Stone magazine has been heavily critiqued for emblazoning the face of 19-year-old Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on its cover, similar to how the publication has posed Jim Morrison and Madonna in the past.

While the magazine is standing behind its editorial decision, New England based CVS and Tedeschi Food Shops, and Walgreens are boycotting the issue.?

Advertisers that paid for placement in the controversial issue were just as surprised as the general public to see Tsarnaev's face on the cover.

A Coca-Cola spokesperson told Business Insider that Fuze iced tea, which had a full-page ad, "did not have any prior knowledge about content that would be in this issue when they bought media several months ago."

The company declined to comment if it had a reaction to the cover or if this would influence future ad buys because "this is not related directly to our business."

In fact, most of the big name advertisers ? from McDonald's to Bud Light ? did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

Personal lubricant Astroglide, however, did say it wished it had been informed that Tsarnaev would be on the cover so that it the option to decide if it wanted to keep its full page ad in the magazine. "If we could have pulled it, we would have," an Astroglide representative told BI.

Astroglide ? which has advertised in Rolling Stone on and off for years, depending on if the editorial staff allowed ads for lubricants in the publication ? does not have immediate plans to advertise in the publication in 2014. But that is due to ad performance rather than the current issue's content.

Other advertisers were comfortable with Rolling Stone's cover.

Online adult products and novelties shop Adam and Eve?only bought a quarter page ad and told Business Insider that it would have kept that ad with prior knowledge of Tsarnaev's cover appearance.

"Above all, Adam & Eve believes in freedom of speech," a spokesperson told Business Insider. "The cover certainly got the attention of the media, but having only seen excerpts of the article, I don't think it's fair to make an assessment. In our experience, Rolling Stone has a proven track record for writing objective, thought provoking stories. I think it's unfortunate that stores are boycotting Rolling Stone and we don't have any plans to change our advertising program with them."

Seventeen other advertisers appeared in the August 1 issue.?They were: Dove Chocolate, M&M's, Snickers, Gillette, TexasPete hot sauce, HP, McDonald's, Camel cigarettes, Converse, Axe, Miracle Whip, A1 BBQ Sauce, Pringles, Full Sail University, Vapor Genie, Altoids, and Straight Talk Wireless.

Although none got back to Business Insider for comment, we will post updates with future comments.

Sprint's tri-band LTE modems go on sale this Friday

Sprint's triband LTE modems on sale July 19th

Sprint announced its first tri-band 4G LTE devices back in May, and now the recently acquired carrier says they'll start shipping on July 19th. The Novatel MiFi 500, Netgear Zing Mobile Hotspot and Netgear 341U USB dongle all support the 800MHz, 1900MHz and 2.5GHz bands. The hotspots will set you back $49.99 with a new contract, whereas the dongle is $19.99 -- that's after a $50 mail-in-rebate, of course. The Zing can roam on GSM networks and has a 2,500mAh battery and, while we don't know how big the battery is in the MiFi, Sprint says it should last 10 hours on a single charge. Plans start at $34.99 per month for 3GB of combined 3G/4G data, with an extra $15 doubling that and another $30 on top of that quadrupling your bucket to 12GB. Sadly, there's no unlimited data option.

US Cellular to reintroduce contracts for existing customer upgrades

US Cellular to reintroduce contracts for existing customer upgrades

Snagging a subsidized phone after completing a two-year contract with US Cellular has meant not having to ink another 24-month commitment, but it looks like that's about to change. We've gotten wind from an internal source that the firm will return to its old ways, requiring existing Belief Plan customers angling for discounted hardware to hitch their wagon to the carrier for an additional two trips around the sun. These changes aren't slated to take effect until July 27th, so we recommend pulling the trigger on that upgrade you've been eyeing before then.

Twitter user swiftly sabotages Zimmerman juror?s book deal

An image of Trayvon Martin and a bullet shell keychain hang from a protester's lanyard in Los Angeles, July 15,??

A Twitter user who launched a social media campaign to stop a juror in the George Zimmerman case from getting a book deal has succeeded in her effort ? within six hours.

On Monday, Juror B37, one of six female jurors who made the controversial decision to acquit Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, told Anderson Cooper that she had signed with a literary agent to shop a tell-all book about her experience during the three-week, televised trial.

The agent, Sharlene Martin, told Yahoo News that the juror reached out to her on the advice of a producer from a morning show and that the juror had said she was planning to publish the book anonymously ?given the sensitivity of the verdict and the outpouring of mixed reactions by the American public.?

Then came the social media campaign.

Genie Lauren, whose Twitter handle is @MoreAndAgain, tweeted out the agent's contact information, urging fellow users to flood the agency with calls and emails "to stop the book deal from coming to fruition," Uproxx.com reports.

"Hey, @sharlenemartin, please drop juror B37," Lauren wrote. "Do not help the person who let a murderer get away profit from this tragedy."

"Only thing I can think to do is flood Sharlene Martin's phone, email, and snail mail, w/ requests that she drop juror B37," she continued.

Lauren then launched a Change.org petition asking the agency to drop the unnamed juror:

After murdering Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman was acquitted, even though juror B37 admitted (in a CNN interview) that Zimmerman "went too far", and didn't "stop at the limitations he should've stopped at". Now that very juror, who allowed Trayvon Martin's killer to get away, is writing a book. Please don't allow this person to profit off of the injustice that they've served to the American public. We deserve better. Trayvon Martin's family deserves better.

The petition quickly reached 1,000 signatures, and the Martin Literary Agency released a statement late Monday:

After careful consideration regarding the proposed book project with Zimmerman Juror B37, I have decided to rescind my offer of representation in the exploration of a book based upon this case.

Juror B37 then announced she was abandoning the book idea:

I realize it was necessary for our jury to be sequestered in order to protect our verdict from unfair outside influence, but that isolation shielded me from the depth of pain that exists among the general public over every aspect of this case. The potential book was always intended to be a respectful observation of the trial from my and my husband?s perspectives solely and it was to be an observation that our "system" of justice can get so complicated that it creates a conflict with our "spirit" of justice. Now that I am returned to my family and to society in general, I have realized that the best direction for me to go is away from writing any sort of book and return instead to my life as it was before I was called to sit on this jury.

Roots' drummer Questlove applauded Lauren's efforts, tweeting a thank you note to his 2.6 million followers.

Demonstrators outside the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Fla. react to George Zimmerman being found not guilty in shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Police barricaded a section of Union Square park early Sunday, clearing nearly 50 demonstrators who had gathered after George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the February 2012 deadly shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

The peaceful rally began around midnight, organizers said. Cops moved them out about 2 a.m.

RELATED: GEORGE ZIMMERMAN FOUND NOT GUILTY

The protesters lit candles in paper cups over signs that read "Emmett Till 1955. Trayvon Martin 2013" and "Tonight a murderer walks free because of racism."

The demonstrators said they were angry at what they described as a miscarriage of justice Saturday night in the Florida courthouse, where a six-woman jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder charges and a lesser charge of manslaughter for the Feb. 26, 2012, shooting that killed the unarmed Martin.

"It's hard to comprehend what I saw on the television screen tonight ... If (Zimmerman's) able to get off this easily, what example does this set for people like him?" said Aaron Black, 39, a consultant from the Bronx. "I'm shocked. He should be doing jail time. I am fuming right now."

Organizers said they hoped the impromptu showing, word of which spread through social media, would display the public's unrest with Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.

"People are upset, they're angry because they felt that Trayvon deserved justice. His parents, Tracy and Sybrina, deserve justice," said Thenjiwe M., 26. "The state of Florida told not just black people, but everybody, that Trayvon's life didn't matter. That the lives of other young black people in similar situations don't matter."

The protestors vacated the park peacefully but said they would return in stronger numbers at 6 p.m. Sunday to resume their rally.

Predatory lionfish now a confirmed invader in the deep Atlantic

Scientists have confirmed that the hardy, Indo-Pacific fish that has invaded waters?off?the US East Coast and the Caribbean?is now living deep in the Atlantic, possibly imperiling smaller fish there.

An expedition down to the Atlantic depths has confirmed for the first time that the lionfish, an invasive species, is living there. The expedition verifies anecdotal evidence that the predatory animal is eluding eradication and imperiling native fish.

Last month, the first expedition to send a deep-diving submersible down to investigate the Atlantic Ocean lionfish invasion found at 300 feet deep large populations of the predatory fish. Scientists believe that native fish are becoming lionfish prey, as the lionfish hunts any fish smaller than it, and are also losing out against the foreign fish in the competition for food.

?This data has confirmed for us that we have a problem there,? said Stephanie Green, lead scientist on the project and a post-doctoral associate at Oregon State University?s Hixon Lab, noting that researchers are still investigating the exact scale of the issue. ?This is the first time we?ve had a look at what the problem is in deep depths ? it?s the next frontier in this study.?

Scientists have traced the lionfish, native to the Indo-Pacific and the first exotic fish to invade the Caribbean, to the aquarium trade between oceans in the 1980s. The fish were likely released into the ocean near southern Florida.?

?Genetic work has showed that the whole invasion began from a few releases,? said Dr. Green.

Divers have been relatively successful at removing lionfish from Florida?s shallow coral reefs, and there have been various efforts in the region to drive up dinner-table demand for the fish. The Reef Environmental Education Foundation Fund sells a cookbook devoted to lionfish recipes, as well as a list of local restaurants that serve lionfish. Conferences on the invasive species have ended with tastings of lionfish cuisine.

But deep-sea dives to the depths that the lionfish has now claimed are not possible, and humans have not been able to remove them. That raises concern that the fish might use the deep sea as a base from which to retake the shallower water.

?There?s some concern that the lionfish might be using a deep-sea refuge,? said Green, noting that further study is needed to confirm that hypothesis.

The effect of the lionfish, venemous fish that plumes like a Japanese fan, is well known in the shallower Atlantic, but its impact on the deep sea is less well known. The animal is what is known as a gape-limited predator, which means that the fish is limited in food consumption by the size of its mouths. The fish, growing up to 47 cm in length, can consume predators up to half its size, which puts about 70 percent of the fish population within their gulp. Studies have shown that at least 40 species of fish have dropped in number since the lionfish was introduced to their Atlantic environment, Green said.

?There is strong evidence that the lionfish is having negative effects on the native population,? she said. ?We don?t see any signal that anything is controlling lionfish population.?

As big fish tend to live longer, the lionfish also reproduce more efficiently than do smaller fish: one female lionfish can spawn some two million eggs per year; the eggs are bundled in gelatinous blobs of some 12,000 to 15,000 eggs and distributed throughout the ocean. That means that the invasive lionfish population has grown in disproportionate number relative to native fish deep in the Atlantic.

And a separate study released this week from UNC Chapel Hill also suggested that a lack of native predators in the Atlantic has further boosted the lionfish?s disproportionate growth: Nothing is down there to eat them.

Researchers are now investigating possible solutions to the lionfish problem, including creating deep sea traps that could nab the large fish, said Green. Scientists are also hoping to catch one of the fish ? using mounted suction cups ? in the deep environment to better understand the changing ecosystem there.

Party leaders spar over Senate rule changes

Reid accused Republicans of trying to deny Obama the right to have his team in place, and accused McConnell of failing to live up to his commitments to allow votes on all nominees, except under extraordinary circumstances. FILE - In this combination of July 11, 2013, file images from Senate Television Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., top, and Republican leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., speak on the floor of the Senate on Capitol Hill in Washington. Democrats threatened to change Senate rules unilaterally if Republicans block yes-or-no votes on several of President Barack Obama?s top-level nominees. Moments later, McConnell said Reid was misquoting him and at the same time failing to honor his word not to change the rules of the Senate unilaterally. (AP Photo/Senate TV, Files)

(AP) ? Proposed changes to Senate rules would either ease the way for President Barack Obama to assemble his second-term team or permanently threaten the body's deliberative style, the chamber's top Democratic and Republican lawmaker said Sunday.

Democratic Leader Harry Reid and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell once again strongly disagreed during separate television segments on the eve of a rare closed-door summit that could reduce the Senate's reputation as deliberative to the point of inaction. Reid and McConnell ? along with their rank-and-file members ? have been trading barbs over just what the proposed changes would be, both for Obama's current slate of nominees who are awaiting confirmation and for future senators who prize their ability to delay action.

Democrats, who are the majority in the Senate, are pushing to erode the rights of minority Republicans to block confirmation of Obama's picks for posts on a labor rights board and a consumer protection bureau. Republicans previously stalled confirmation votes for Obama's pick for labor secretary and chiefs of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Export-Import Bank, but last week GOP lawmakers stepped aside and said they would allow those nominees to move forward.

Reid said the changes were not about the appointment of judges or passing legislation. "This is allowing the people of America to have a president who can have his team," he said.

McConnell called Democrats' proposed changes contrary to Senate tradition, which typically requires 60 votes to end debate and move forward on nominations or legislation.

"I hope that we'll come to our senses and not change the core of the Senate. We've never changed the rules of the Senate by breaking the rules of the Senate," McConnell said.

All 100 senators ? but not reporters or the public ? have been invited to a meeting Monday evening to seek a compromise that a handful of lawmakers are now exploring.

"We need to start talking to each other instead of at each other," McConnell said.

It's not clear a conversation would produce any agreement.

Reid calls the changes minor and narrow. McConnell calls them unprecedented and overbroad.

Reid says the proposal applies only to those tapped to serve in the administration, not for lifetime posts as judges. McConnell says it would fundamentally deny senators their prerogative to query potential officials.

Reid said the nominees would protect consumers, workers and the environment. McConnell and his GOP allies say the picks are payback to Obama's political base.

"They're driven by the unions," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.

Countered Reid: "They have nothing against the qualifications. They don't like the jobs these people have."

In particular, Republicans have objected to a pair of union-backed members, Richard Griffin and Sharon Block, on the National Labor Relations Board, who were appointed by Obama when he said the Senate was in recess. An appeals court has ruled that Obama exceeded his authority, and the board's actions since they took their seats are in legal limbo.

Republicans also have objected to Obama's pick to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which was created as part of Wall Street overhaul legislation, which the GOP opposed. Obama nominated his pick, former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, more than two years ago.

"I think a president should have the right to put their team out there," said Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

"Why we can't just do 51 votes is beyond me," she added.

Reid and McConnell spoke during separate interviews with NBC's "Meet the Press." Hatch and Klobuchar were on ABC's "This Week."

Samsung SM-P900 tablets revealed to sport 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, could be Galaxy Tab 3 Plus

Samsung?s?User Agent Profile (UAProf) website reveals that the South Korean electronics giant may be preparing a line of tablets with the product code SM-P900. A Japanese blog called RBMen is credited for having discovered the information about the new tablets.

?

SM-P900

According to Sam Mobile, SM-P900 could well pertain to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 that is aimed at the high-end market segment. Sam Mobile reports that the SM-P900 appears to have a display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600?pixels. These tablets also run on ARM11 processors with a 1.4GHz clock speed. Likewise, the operating system is indicated to be Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

There would supposedly be three versions of the tablet: one that supports only 3G connectivity, called the SM-P900; another that supports only Wi-Fi, called the SM-P901; and lastly, one that is supports 3G, Wi-Fi, and LTE. Because of the presence of the letter P in the product code, the same blog speculates that the leaked line of tablets will not support the S-Pen stylus. Thus, the unannounced family of tablets will not be the successor of the Galaxy Note 10.1, which is also expected to be updated soon.

Sam Mobile says that Samsung could announce these tablets at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany this coming September, but it is equally possible that Samsung would choose to unveil the allegedly upcoming tablets outside of the IFA.

To date, there is limited information about these new tablets, but more leaks may arrive as IFA 2013 nears. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the leaked spefications of the SM-P900?
