The Simpsons paid tribute to Marcia Wallace, the voice of teacher Mrs. Krabappel who died Oct. 25, in the show's opening Sunday night.
"We'll really miss you Mrs. K.," Bart Simpson wrote on the chalkboard in the credits sequence ahead of Sunday night's new episode, "Four Regrettings and a Funeral." Wallace voiced teacher Edna Krabappel on Fox's long-running animated hit.

Ahead of the 8 p.m. premiere, Fox re-aired a classic episode of the show, "The Ned-liest Catch," that featured Wallace. The story line found Edna dating Ned Flanders, who is surprised to learn she's been with many of Springfield's men, including Homer and Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer (who guest-voices).
Wallace won an Emmy for her voice work on the 1992 Simpsons episode "Bart the Lover."After the elementary school teacher gives Bart a month of detention, he gets his revenge by responding to her newspaper singles ad. That was her 10th of 177 episodes on the series.

Wallace died Oct. 25 at her home in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia. The actress, who also was known for her role as quick-witted receptionist Carol Kester on the 1970s comedy The Bob Newhart Show, was 70.
"I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at The Simpsons and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character," said Simpsons executive producer Al Jean in a statement after she died.
